Weekly Update - Oct 28-31

This week students have been exploring narrative poetry and figurative language as a connection to the Renaissance movement called Humanism.  Some of the artists students explored were The Offspring, NF, and Neil Young. 

We also are considering the geocentric and heliocentric models of the Solar System.   Students completed posters and 3D models to showcase the differences and discussed what each model shows about Worldview. 

Visual Notetaking: da Vinci

This week students in 85 are focussing on Visual Notetaking on the subject of Leonardo da Vinci.  On Monday they completed this through the examination of primary sources.  On Tuesday, we will continue this work by examining the virtual exhibits available online:

These websites are great places to start.  Each page in your Visual Notetaking should have a title, a visual component (sketch, doodle), your reaction (connection or thinking) and may also include quotations from or about da Vinci. 

Weekly Update

This week we have been considering the federal election as a current event and have worked to explore some of the different platforms and issues within this.

After reviewing how MPs are elected to the legislative branch, students have completed and discussed their results on the "I Side With" quiz.

We are also exploring the Medici Family who were patrons of the various artists, architects and inventors during the Renaissance.   Here is a link to a listening and writing assignment students did on Wednesday.

Along with considering finances in the Renaissance, students will also read and respond a story called "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant.   An audio version is available through Libervox.
